Dennis Marienfeld - 2003-09-04
Dennis graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 1967, and from the University of Missouri Medical School in 1971.  He married Lea Herrin (HHS, ‘64) in 1970.  After internship and residency, they moved to New Orleans where Dennis served in the Public Health Service.  They returned to Columbia in 1976 when Dennis accepted a position as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Univ. of Mo. Medical School.  Through the years he has served, among other positions, as Clerkship Director for the third year medical
students, Associate Chief of Staff for Education and Associate Chief of Staff for Ambulatory Care at the Veteran’s Hospital in Columbia, and Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine for the UMC Medical School.  He has received numerous awards through the years for excellence in teaching, patient care, and service.

Denny still plays jazz (on saxes, clarinet, guitar, keyboard).  His group, Planet Jazz, plays regularly at D’Agostino’s in Columbia, Summit Lake Winery in Holt’s Summit, Patty Malone’s restaurantlbar in Jeff City, and the Jazz Pub Crawl in Downtown Columbia.  His other favorite pastime is Musky fishing.  (He catches them and then lets them go.)

Lea graduated from UMC with a BS in ‘68 and a MA in ‘71.  She just retired (June ‘03) from her job at Columbia United Church of Christ where she was Music Coordinator and Director of Orchestra, Bell Choirs, and Youth Singers.  Denny and Lea have two children: Katie, 25 years old, graduated in 2000 from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa and is a fourth year medical student.  She is engaged to be married in May ‘04.  Brian, 20 years old, is a sophomore at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois and is majoring (this week anyway) in Environmental Studies and Music (Jazz).  He is a jazz trumpet player and drummer, and he currently plays in two combos and one big band.

Sorry that Denny can’t be with you.  He is in a Musky Fishing Tournament this weekend in Southern Missouri.  Hope everyone has a great time at the reunion.
