Helen Stone Borchelt – 2003-09-16

The past forty years have flown by for me.  After earning a B.S. in education from MU, I left the state for a teaching position in Anaheim, CA.  I met my future husband, Jack Borchelt, on Balboa Island. We were married in 1970 and lived in Corona del Mar, CA.  Jack's job with IBM took us to Rochester, MN in '74, to Dallas,TX in '77, and to Santa Cruz, CA in '80.  Last year we retired to a rural golfing community, Pauma Valley, in northeastern San Diego County.

My teaching career was short lived as I switched to full time mom for the majority of the past years, although I did take classes on learning disabilities at San Jose State and worked as an aide for resource specialists and in classes for severely emotionally disturbed children.

Mostly, though, my time and energy went to helping raise our four children. Our son John is 32, a computer science major and is married and living in San Carlos,CA.  Christine is 31 and in her last year of residency in internal medicine at NYU.  Sarah is 26, living in Berkeley and working for the California Coastal Commission in San Francisco. Katy is 23 and is working at The Advisory Board in Washington D.C.

Now days, my time is spent enjoying the people, activities and beautiful surroundings of our new community.  Jack and I love to travel to keep in touch with family and friends and play neat golf courses (Jack). Fortunately, I still have family in Columbia and make it back there at least annually. I also look for any opportunity to join our kids if they travel out of the country. My favorite trip was visiting Katy while she was attending school in Capetown, South Africa.  Besides travel opportunities, I'm on the lookout for some activity to get involved with over the next 20 years that will help make these years as interesting, fun and rewarding as the last 40.

Looking forward to getting reacquainted with our Class of '63.
