Jane Russey Glaser - 2003-08-13
I lived in Columbia from 1948 to 1959. I went to Ulysses S. Grant Elementary School and then to Jefferson Junior High School through the 8th grade.

In 1959 my father retired from the State of Missouri and we moved to San Antonio, Texas. I finished Junior and Senior High School there. It was also there that I met my husband Richard while he was stationed in the army. We were married in 1964. Almost 40 years ago!!

Soon after we were married, we moved to a large family cattle ranch near Elko, Nevada. It was there that our son Kevin and our daughter Lisa were born. We lived there until 1971 when the whole family moved to Roseville, CA., to a much smaller ranch. The whole family included Rich's folks, his Aunt and Uncle, and of course the 4 of us. We have been here ever since.
For years we raised and showed registered Quarter Horses on this smaller ranch. Showing mostly in cutting horse competitions. Most of the family went on the weekend trips to horse shows.  Kevin was more interested in wheels, but Lisa competed and did quite well. We have given all of that up now. Traveling a lot, every weekend, to horse shows tends to get very tiresome after so many years. The only horse left here is the grandkids pony, named Horse, of course!!

My husband and I have a saddle shop that accommodates a lot of the ranchers and horse trainers in Northern California. We also have a thriving mail order business shipping goods all over the United States and the world. We make most of our inventory that ranges from western horse tack to purses, daybooks, photo albums, belts, wallets, etc. We call our little shop Glaser Saddle Shop. We have been in business for almost 33 years. You would laugh if you saw our shop….built from 3 converted horse stalls!! But, it seems to have worked out all these years.

Grandchildren have now come along. Three, so far. They are the offspring of our daughter Lisa and her husband John. They live 10 minutes away in Roseville. The kids love coming out to the ranch for the freedom they enjoy here. They have their animals from horses to cows to chickens.  Our son in law likes to work in the saddle shop on his days off, so we are hoping he takes enough of an interest to let us leave once in a while.

Our son Kevin lives in Reno, NV and is engaged to be married.

Retirement is now on the horizon!! Sure seems like a fast 45 years from my childhood in Columbia. Was a great place to grow up in.
