1950 graduated Hickman High School
1954 graduated Mizzou - BS Education
1954 - 1956 taught at Lees Summit High School
1957 - 1956 taught at Jefferson Junior High School
1969-1970 returned to teaching and joined the Hickman faculty
Taught English & Speech for 5 years, then Drama
classes; Acting I and Acting II for 23 years
Directed stage plays, musicals and assembly programs
Assisted Kent Toalson as Drama Director for all-school musicals (these
were sell-out performances)
Along with Ray Newby, debate teacher, we sponsored the Speech & Drama
traveling teams to tournaments
(We were fortunate to work with talented students who won top honors and
trophies. Former students achieved
top awards at Missouri State Speech & Drama competitions. Some advanced
to National Competition and I had
the privilege to coach and accompany them. Competed in Nashville, TN; Huntsville,
AL; San Jose, CA;
Oklahoma City, OK; Golden, CO; Fargo, ND and Eau Claire, WI.)
Retired 1997 after a total of 33 years of teaching
Following retirement; served as a substitute teacher for two years,
worked as a supervisor at Census 2000 for 1.5 years,
lastly at Sylvan Learning Center for two years.
FINALLY RETIRED!
Joyce has three daughters; Julie, Jennifer & Jacque
and seven grandchildren (Jake, Amber & Katie,
Justin & Elle and Dakota & Bella)
