Panjshir is rich in history dating back from the time of Alexander to the fall of the Taliban. The province has been known to be a natural fortress. It is a long valley surrounded by steep mountains (the Hindu Kush). Neither the Soviets nor the Taliban could completely conquer it. As a result the province has had much more than its share on war damage and neglect.
So much for the history and geography
lesson. I must say that I have enjoyed the Kewpie Classmates website.
The troops I am with get a hoot seeing my class picture. To most
of them it looks like ancient history since most were born in the ‘70’s
or ‘80’s. I’d be interested to know if any other Kewps out there
are currently in service, prior-service (count yourself!) or currently
deployed overseas. I’d like to hear from them. I’d like to
extend my apologies to my other “70 classmates for missing the 35th (Yikes!)
reunion last fall but it occurred after I deployed. I’ll have to
catch the next one. Keep up the good work!!
(I’ve included a picture of me standing in the rugged
wilds of northern Panjshir.)
