Dennis and Beth Hendrickson - 2003-11-30

Beth and I were married in 1964, obviously not long after graduation.  I started at MU mid semester that year.  Beth had become a licensed hair stylist and worked while I went to school for three semesters in Columbia.  In 1966, we moved to Kansas City where Beth began working as a hair stylist on the country club plaza.  I was a kept man during those years.  Especially after I was accepted into pharmacy school at UMKC.

After four years of marriage and right in the middle of finals, our daughter Kelli was born.  We were living in an apartment above the Country Club Plaza.  Beth continued to work and I went to school during the day and worked at night.

After graduation, I accepted a staff position at one of the local hospitals.  After three years, I was looking for another challenge.  Either more education or another career tract.  I decided to pursue industrial pharmacy after a position became available at Marion Laboratories in Kansas City, a small $50 million dollar start up company.  Marion Laboratories was owned by Ewing Kauffman who a few years before had acquired the Kansas City Royals.

We settled in to a routine of life trying to make a contribution to the community in which we live.  We continue to be involved in volunteer work.

During the early years, I was formulating prescription pharmaceuticals in a laboratory and Beth was continuing her career as a hair stylist.  If you have taken medications produced by Marion Laboratories, Marion Merrell Dow, Hoechst Marion Roussel or Aventis Pharmaceuticals, you likely have used pharmaceuticals that have my finger print.   My career continues today at the successor company, Aventis Pharmaceuticals.   My current position after 30 some years is to as a pharmaceutical specialist.

Our daughter is married and has two children.  The current lights of our lives are two grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Spencer.  Kaitlyn a very lively eight and Spencer is nearly two.
