Opal Lee Bryson, 87, of Springfield died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with the Rev. Don Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Bryson was born Oct. 28, 1914, in Columbia to Mathy and Lina Palmer Smith.

She married Stanley Bryson on Aug. 8, 1935, and he preceded her in death.

She was of the Baptist faith. She lived in Hinton for 60 years before moving to Springfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Dean Tendai of Springfield; a sister, Dorothy Cook of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Ernest Rawlin Absheer, 64, of Boonville, formerly of Columbia, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, in Columbia.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at the William Wood Funeral Home in Boonville with the Rev. Ronnie Mosier officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Absheer was born May 16, 1937, in Williamsville to John Ernest and Dorothy Reeves Moiser Absheer. He married Deborah Lynn Sieckmann on Jan. 3, 1996, and she survives.

He served with the Air Force in Korea and Vietnam. He transferred to the Strategic Air Command and later became a training instructor at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served as an Air Force recruiter in Columbia until his retirement from the service in 1975 at the rank of master sergeant.

Mr. Absheer earned a bachelor’s degree in 1982 from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He retired from MFA and served as a commander at Kemper Military School. He was also a past president of Eagles Lodge No. 1022.

Survivors also include three daughters, Jennifer Varelans of Cibolo, Texas, Tamela Absheer of Austin, Texas, and Sandra Anderson of Austin, Texas; two stepchildren, Joey Wyrick and Michelle Swigert, both of Boonville; one brother, Rodney Lee Absheer of St. Charles; and four granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Gladys Weinberg, 92, of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Private graveside services will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Columbia Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mrs. Weinberg was born Dec. 27, 1909, in New York City to Israel and Carrie Dreyfus Davidson.

She married Saul S. Weinberg in 1942, and he preceded her in death.

She received a doctorate in archaeology from Johns Hopkins University.

She was one of the world’s foremost authorities on ancient and medieval glass. After World War II, she served in Europe in the Secret Service.

She was editor of Archaeology magazine and cofounder of the Museum of Art and Archaeology at the University of Missouri. She was first the curator of Ancient Art and then assistant director of the museum from 1962 to 1977. She was made an honorary life member of the Archaeological Institute of America and was a recepient of its Gold Medal for Distinguished Archaeological Achievement. She recieved the Percia Schimmel Award from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

Survivors include a daughter, Miriam Dyak of Seattle.

Memorials are suggested to the Weinberg Purchase Fund or to the Museum Associates of the Museum of Art and Archaeology. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St.

Aubrey Thomas Long, 95, of Columbia died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Christian Chapel, 3300 S. Providence Road, with the Rev. Gary Denbow officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22 at the church.

Mr. Long was born Sept. 2, 1916, in Woodlandville, to Roy Hagan and Lena Anna Coffman Long.

He married Myrtle Carolyn Ehler in Centralia, and she preceded him in death.

He farmed in Canada during the 1940s. He was employed at Columbia Auto Parts and Boone Electric as a bookkeeper for six years, Columbia Brick and Tile as a Bookkeeper for two years, and the Columbia Daily Tribune for three years. He started selling Preferred Risk Insurance in 1953 and building homes in 1958, until his retirement in 1982. He attended First Assembly of God Church and Christian Chapel Assembly of God.

Survivors include three sons, Wayne Long of Oklahoma City, Wendell Long of Pickerington, Ohio, Dennis Long of Columbia; a daughter, Donna McMinn of Columbia; two sisters, Lucille Ferguson of Columbia and Mary Davies of Hallsville; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Long and Rufus Long; and a sister, Opal Taitenger.

W. Calverin "Cal" Poff, 80, of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road, with the Revs. Jessie Barnhart and Gary Humphrey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the funeral home.

Mr. Poff was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Audrain County to Larkin and Linnie Cleeton Poff.

He married Allene Dollens on May 25, 1940, in Mexico, Mo., and she survives.

He served in the Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a retired Southern Baptist minister, serving Clark Baptist Church, Sulphur Springs, Harrisburg, Perche Church and New Providence Baptist Church. He retired from Shelter Insurance Co. as an auto insurance underwriter. He was a member of the New Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors also include a daughter, Donna Ellen Pulis of Concordia; two sons, Gary Wade Poff of Jefferson City and Estil Dean Poff of Columbia; a brother, Lyndall Fay Poff of Columbia; three sisters, Essilee Hinten of Joplin and Opal Ruth Forman and Ella Fern Brown, both of Mexico, Mo.; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

Clarence E. Klingner, 91, of Washington, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Grandview Healthcare in Washington.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the McMurry Chapel at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St., with the Rev. Jim Bryan officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 25, 1910, in Radiant, Colo., to Charles and Euphie Morrow Klingner.

He married Geraldine White on June 6, 1935, in Ash Grove, and she preceded him in death.

He married Beulah Mason on June 21, 1986, in Neosho, and she preceded him in death.

He was a 1929 Graduate of Fair Grove High School in Fair Grove. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1935 and a master’s degree in agriculture economics in 1949, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

He was the county extension agent in Gasconade County from 1934 to 1943 and Franklin County from 1943 to 1946.

He was a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia in the Agriculture Economics Department from 1946-1974.

He was a loan officer with the First Bank of Commerce in Columbia from 1975 to 1988.

He was a member of the Missouri United Methodist Church, Epsilon Sigma Phi and Gamma Sigma Delta, honorary ag. fraternities, and Alpha Gamma Sigma.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Thayer of Washington, Mo., and Constance "Connie" Marshall of Louisburg, Kan.; a brother, Fred Klingner of Charlotte, N.C.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two brothers, William Klingner and Thomas Klingner.

William Dixon Speer Jr., of Columbia died Saturday, January 26, 2002, in his home after a short illness. He was 83.

Private services were conducted by the Rev. Jim Bryan. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Speer was born April 13, 1918, in Searcy, Ark., to William D. and Carrie Henderson Speer.

He married Dixie Wyatt on Dec. 28, 1941, in Springfield, and she survives.

Mr. Speer was a graduate of Central High School in Little Rock, Ark., Little Rock Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Fayette, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He was a certified public accountant and member of Tennessee and Texas boards of public accountancy. He was an administrator of Hardin County General Hospital in Savannah, Tenn., and later Phelps County Memorial Hospital in Rolla. He retired in 1983 as assistant to the director of fiscal affairs at University Hospital. Mr. Speer served with the Fourth Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of Missouri United Methodist Church since 1967. He served as a volunteer driver for the Red Cross Blood Center and Meals on Wheels. He was past president of the Lions Club in Savannah, Tenn., and Rolla. He was a member of American Contract Bridge League and A.L. Gustin Golf Course.

Survivors include four daughters, Pamela Speer and Debbie McMillen of Columbia; Janet Peek of Godfrey, Ill.; and Martha Rouby of Little Rock, Ark.; a son, Paul Wyatt Speer of Mountain Home, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Carolyn S. Steinberg, 85, of Columbia died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Memorial Park Mausoleum, meeting at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with the Rev. Richard Ramsey officiating.

Mrs. Steinberg was born Oct. 2, 1916, in DuQuoin, Ill., to George and Lois Willi Strunck.

She married Simon Steinberg on Nov. 24, 1938, in Columbia, and he survives.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, E.S.A. International, Cosmos Pals and the Stephens College Alumni Association.

Survivors also include two sons, Alan Steinberg of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Larry Steinberg of Indianapolis; a sister, Billie Granneman of Columbia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Strunck.

Mrs. Perkins was born May 9, 1911, in Boone County to Samuel and Myrtle Kemper Ott.

She married Grover Perkins on Nov. 17, 1926, in Columbia, and he preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Melvin Perkins of Hallsville; two daughters, Betty Magnuson of Columbia and Anita Sue Minor of Mexico, Mo.; a sister, Lorene Stone of Harrisburg; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by three sons, William Perkins, Raymond Perkins and Robert Perkins; two brothers, Roy Ott and Clarence Ott; and four sisters, Louise Toalson, Dorothy Shores, Alice Bryson and Edith House.

Mrs. Hayes was born Aug. 1, 1914, in Carrington, to Samuel H. and Mary Brown Williams. She married John Hayes on Nov. 5, 1934, and he preceded her in death.

She attended Boone County public schools. She was a member of the Log Providence Baptist Church in Columbia and was formerly employed with Stephens College. She retired in 1980.

Survivors include four sons, Carl "Jack" Hayes of Wichita, Kan., Clarence Hayes of Las Vegas, Nev., and the Rev. Raymond Hayes and William Hayes, both of Columbia; five daughters, Evelyn Lee, Phyllis Williams, Margaret Key Hayes and Jewell Bentley, all of Columbia, and Pauline Harris of Peoria, Ill.; 28 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, three brothers and seven sisters.

Ruth E. DeHaven, 78, of Columbia died Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. DeHaven was born Jan. 21, 1924, in Warren County to Martin H. and Nettie F. Hackmann.

She married Paul DeHaven on Aug. 7, 1948, in Columbia, and he survives.

Before her retirement she was self-employed as a beautician. She was a member of the Wilkes Boulevard Methodist Church.

Survivors also include a son, Bruce DeHaven of Columbia; a daughter, Donna Sims of Columbia; and three grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Terry DeHaven; two brothers, Ralph and Elmer Hackmann; and three sisters, Emma Pauk, Vera Burke and Cora Hackmann.

Mr. Welty was born Jan. 15, 1928, in Hutchinson, Kan., to Kenneth and Ella Weber Welty.

He married Martha Reinhardt in Chanute, Kan., on Feb. 3, 1951, and she survives.

He served with the Navy during World War II.

He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Scottish Rite, Acacia Lodge No. 607 and Elk’s Lodge No. 760 in Maryville. He was a member of Brick Layer’s Local No. 11 for 50 years.

He worked for McGlasson Brothers Construction and retired from Wulff Brothers Masonry Construction.

Survivors also include a son, Kenneth Welty of Columbia; two daughters, Rhonda Goslee of Maryville and Pamela George of Columbia; a sister, Arlene Hilderbrand of Liberal, Kan.; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wesley Welty.

Mrs. Garrison was born Feb. 16, 1934, in Boone County to Homer and Berniece Creasy.

She married Oliver Garrison on Sept. 6, 1950, in Boone County, and he preceded her in death.

Before her retirement she was employed by the Diggs Meat Packing Co. and Kmart. She left Columbia in 1997 to be near her daughter.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Malone of Midway, Ga.; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by two great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth Minter English, 93, formerly of Columbia, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

No visitation is planned. Mrs. English will be cremated. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St.

Mrs. English was born Sept. 6, 1908, near Knox City to James Alfred and Sarah Agnes Millsap Minter.

She married William Francis English in 1928, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from LaBelle High School in 1926. She attended Kirksville State Teacher’s College, Central Methodist College and received a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1951. She was a member of the Sigma Pi Alpha national honorary education society and Pi Lambda Theta honorary fraternal group. She was a member of the Beth Schooling antique group of the Fortnightly Club.

She taught at rural schools and in Columbia public schools until 1960. She was a resident of Columbia from 1943 to 1994.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Columbia and the Thilo Chapter of the Eastern Star. She helped establish the Mid-Missouri Alzheimer’s Support Group.

Survivors include three daughters, Sarah Etta Young of Kansas City; Carolyn Frances Roderick of Kimberling City and Elizabeth Ann Orthwein of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a sister, Allie Kathryn Rhodes of Knox City; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.

She was a member of Huntsdale Baptist Church and played piano for the church for 50 years. She was a senior clerk in admissions at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Logwood of Columbia and Branda Mansfield of Fayette; a son, Danny Melloway of Columbia; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mansur was born Dec. 30, 1906, in Stover to Edward G. and Frances E. Feiandt Blackman.

She married Willard O. Wall, and he preceded her in death. She married George F. Mansur Sr., on Oct. 19, 1969, and he preceded her in death.

She moved to Columbia in 1969 from Hardin. She was a former member of the Missouri United Methodist Church and was a member of the Fairview United Methodist Church.

She was a volunteer at the University Hospital Gift Shop for 12 years. She was a member of the Columbia Garden Club. She received many blue ribbons for her flowers at the Boone County Fair.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Jacobs of Columbia; a son, George F. Mansur Jr., of Orlando, Fla.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kintner was born Jan. 19, 1944, in Boonville to Henry and Mildred Overstreet Schrader. On July 23, 1960, she married Donald Kintner in Columbia, and he survives.

She was a member of Grace Church of Mid-Missouri in Columbia and worked as a personal banker at Firstar Bank in Columbia.

John P. "Jack" Slusher, 67, of Columbia died Friday, Feb. 22, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, at the First Christian Church, 101 N. Tenth St., with the Rev. John Yonker officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.

Mr. Slusher was born June 11, 1934, in Lexington to Paul and Mary Irons Slusher.

He married Carol Murry on Sept. 3, 1954, and she survives.

He graduated from Lexington High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in forestry at the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in extension education at Kansas State University. He served in the Army and worked as assistant district forester for the Missouri Department of Conservation from 1958 to 1961 and as district extension forester for Kansas State University from 1961 to 1969. He then worked as an extension forester and professor of forestry for the University of Missouri School of Natural Resources until retiring in 2000.

He was a member of the First Christian Church, Phi Gamma Delta fraternity and 4-H and an honorary member of FFA. He was a member of the boards of directors for the Forest Farmers Association and the Missouri Forest Products Association. He also was a member of the Missouri State Tree Farm Committee, the Hammons Products Co.-Sho Neff Plantation Walnut Research Advisory Board, the Walnut Council Silviculture Committee, Epsilon Sigma Phi, Gamma Sigma Delta, the National Society of American Foresters, the Missouri Society of American Foresters, the National Extension Forestry Organization and the Executive Committee of the University of Missouri-Columbia Center for Agroforestry.

He was honored as a fellow in the Society of American Foresters and earned the Karkhagne Award recognizing outstanding service to professional forestry.

Survivors also include a son, Scott Slusher of Lexington; a daughter, Paula Slusher of Columbia; five granddaughters; and a grandson.

He was a member of the First Christian Church for 62 years and a Kiwanis Club member for 55 years.

Mr. Lee was born July 30, 1935, in Frankfort, Ind., to Harvey George and Adeline Mae Robison Lee.

He married Martha Oliver in Sept. 1957 in Indianapolis.

He received a bachelor’s degree from Hanover College, a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a doctorate from Purdue University.

He worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, N.M., from 1959 to 1963 and was the director of the health physics department at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1968 to 1994, where he also was an instructor.

He was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church for 33 years and also was a member of the Cosmos, Boy Scouts and 4-H Club.

Survivors include a son, John Lee of Columbia; a daughter, Kathy Reineking of Atlanta; a brother, Norman Lee of Ridgeville, Ind.; and a companion, Mary Ann Steyeart of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mrs. Speichinger was born Aug. 18, 1945, in Nashville, Ill., to Clemence John and Ruth Ann Moeller Piotrowski.

She married Anthony Speichinger on Sept. 30, 1978, in Columbia, and he survives.

She served in the Army for four years and was a veteran of the Vietnam conflict. She had been stationed at the Fitzimmons General Hospital in Aurora, Colo., Fort Leonard Wood and the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Columbia and the Knights of Columbus Ladies’ Auxiliary.

She had been employed as a pediatric nurse at University Hospital.

Other survivors include her mother, Ruth Ann Piotrowski of Fayette, two daughters, Jeanne Speichinger and Katherine Speichinger, both of Columbia; a son, Joseph Speichinger of Columbia; five sisters, Mary Briggs of Dallas, Carol Long of St. Paul, Joyce Piotrowski of Fayette, Laura Piotrowski of Duluth, Minn., and Jane Shook of Moberly; two brothers, Joseph Piotrowski of Moberly and Leo Piotrowski of Pepin, Wis.

He married Hazel Acton on Sept. 4, 1946, in Ashland, and she survives.

He lived his entire life in Boone County and attended rural Boone County schools. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Huntsdale Baptist Church. He worked for the city of Columbia Street Department for 37 years, retiring in 1990.

Survivors also include four daughters, Sheila Fields, Glenda Sapp and Tammy Winfrey, all of Columbia, and Terri Wolf of Tipton; a son, Stephen Poe of Columbia; a sister, Helen Burr of Vaughn, N.M.; three brothers, Ralph Poe, Sanford Poe and Victor Poe, all of Columbia; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Sprague was born Jan. 15, 1916, in Wilton to John Joseph Sprague and Dollie Mae Kinsel Sprague. He married Myrtle Quinley in 1939, and she preceded him in death. He married Clara Bartels on May 5, 1962, in Columbia, and she survives.

He owned and operated Sprague Furniture Store in Columbia for many years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include three sons, John Sprague Jr. of Kansas City, Donald Sprague of El Paso, Texas, and Joseph Sprague of Columbia; four daughters, Ann Hagan of Hallsville, Londa Reno of Hampton, Va., Susan Groh and Sylvia Sprague, both of Columbia; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Kyger was born June 27, 1932, in New Bloomfield to Clayton and Gladys Sappington Kyger.

He married Barbara Taylor and later married Dorothy Holtgraeive on Sept. 29, 1969, in Columbia, and she survives.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a brick mason and member of BAC Local No. 11. He was a co-partner in Double K Construction until his retirement in 1993. He was a deputy sheriff for a short time, and in 1962, he was a member of the Central Missouri Radio Squad Fire Department, an early version of the Boone County Fire Protection District. In his later years he was a woodcarver and earned a reputation for his wooden Santa Clauses and bald eagles. He also taught adult education classes.

Survivors also include his mother, Gladys Crane of Columbia; a daughter, Kathy Kyger of Los Angeles; a brother, Robert Hudson of Columbia; two sisters, Shirley Bennett and Nell Jones, both of Columbia; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carrie Elizabeth.

Mrs. Windsor was born Feb. 15, 1908, in Columbia to Jasper R. and Mary Edith Ewens Cornelison.

She married Paul P. Windsor on Nov. 25, 1937, and he preceded her in death.

She lived most of her life in Columbia. She was a member of the Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church.

She was an accountant for KOMU-TV and worked in the admissions office for Boone Hospital for several years. She also volunteered at Boone Hospital and was honored as Volunteer of the Year in 1996.

She was inducted into the Columbia Bowling Hall of Fame in February of 1998, and won first place in a bowling tournament in 1999. She was a member of the Windsor Club Bowling Team.

She was a past president of the American Business Women’s Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Anne Jackson of Burnaby, British Columbia; a son, Paul David Windsor of Jersey City, N.J.; two sisters, Kitty Cornelison of Indianapolis and Reba G. Krehbiel of Columbia; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

Mr. Wilkinson was born Oct. 27, 1935, in Mexico, Mo., to Ralph and Mary Tyler Wilkinson.

He married Patricia Neal on July 11, 1959, in Mexico, Mo., and she survives.

He served in the Army from 1958 to 1959. He worked for State Farm Insurance for 41 years as a bond specialist. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder and on numerous committees for the church. He was an avid University of Missouri-Columbia sports supporter.

Survivors also include two sons, Joe Wilkinson of Kansas City and Neal Wilkinson of Columbia; a daughter, Heather Wilkinson of Columbia; two sisters, Marianne Bullard of Normal, Ill., and Kathryn Foree of Peoria, Ariz.; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Kewley was born Nov. 19, 1936, in LaPorte, Ind., to Ray and Edna Young Kewley.

He married Sarah Wilson. Later he married Sharyl Phillips. He then married Sandi Wells.

He lettered as a basketball and football player in McKinney, Texas. He served with the Marine Corps on the USS Helena, during the Lebanon Crisis and in Okinawa, Hawaii, Japan from 1956 to 1959.

He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. His family owned and operated Mugs-Up, and he was a contractor in the Columbia area beginning in 1960. He was employed with the Country Club of Missouri for ten years.

Survivors include his father, Ray Kewley of Columbia; his stepmother, Ann Kewley of Columbia; five sons, Ronald Wayne Kewley Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Derek Kewley, Lance Kewley, Kendall Wells and Timothy Wells, all of Columbia; a daughter, Courtney Wells of Honolulu.; a brother, Larry Kewley of Columbia; a sister, Donna Stone of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Rita Kewley.

Caroline Zeller Lacey, 91, of Columbia died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Lenoir Health Care Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 25, at Missouri United Methodist Church, 204 S. Ninth St., with the Rev. Jim Bryan officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service.

Mrs. Lacey was born Aug. 3, 1910, in Tacoma, Wash., to Julius Christian and Alice Emma Bryant Zeller. On April 21, 1933, she married William Lacey in Kansas City, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Yazoo City High School in Yazoo City, Miss., in 1929, then majored in music, history and psychology at the University of Mississippi. She taught ballet for three years in Oxford, Miss.

She became a sales representative for Stanley Home Products and transferred to Columbia in 1957. She retired as a manager in 1975 and continued to conduct sales courses.

Mrs. Lacey helped start the University of Missouri-Columbia chapter of Kappa Delta sorority and coordinated the purchase of its house. She served as president of the sorority’s housing corporation for seven years.

She was a member of American Business Women and served as its president for two years. She was chairwoman of the Wesleyan Circle of the Missouri United Methodist Church for three years, president of the Business and Professional Women for two years and award chairwoman for the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member and chaplain of the Daughters of Union Veterans Tent 21. She served in the Boone County Jail ministry and was a member of the Boone County Historical Society. She was named Woman of the Year for American Business Women and Business and Professional Women. As a Stanley saleswoman, she received 100 awards and citations.

Survivors include two daughters, Edna Green and Miriam Steffan, both of Columbia; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her parents, a brother and five sisters preceded her in death.

Mr. Maher lived most of his life in Columbia. He was a homebuilder and developed Trails West, Rollingwood, Rothwell Heights, Georgetown and Lake Shore Estates subdivisions. He co-founded Mid-City Lumber Co. and was former owner and operator of Maher Broom Factory. He served in the Coast Guard.

He was a past member of the Eagles Lodge and a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Vicki Nichols of Higbee; two sisters, Agnes Budden of Seattle and Opal West of New Haven; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He served in the Navy during the Korean War and with the Iowa National Guard.

He was the owner of 13 Pizza Hut restaurants in southeast Missouri.

He was a charter member and past president of the Eagles Lodge of Newton, Iowa. He was a lifetime member of the Skeet Shooting Association and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the National Reining Horse Association, the Missouri Reining Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the Missouri Quarter Horse Association.

Other survivors include two sons, Tony Fudge and Tod Fudge, both of Columbia; three daughters, Diane Fudge of Columbia, Denise Creagan of Cleveland, Tenn., and Terri McGrath of Columbia; four sisters, Colleen Arthur and Betty Fudge, both of Newton, Iowa, Nesha Mengersen of Hollywood, Fla., and Donna Lobsinger of Aurora, Colo.; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He graduated in 1958 from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

He was an Army veteran, serving at the rank of first lieutenant in the Army Reserve.

He was the district manager for Franklin Life Insurance for 25 years, then became senior vice president at Boone County National Bank for 16 years.

He was a member of Missouri United Methodist Church and served on the United Methodist Foundation.

He was the past president of REDI; a member of the Jefferson Club; a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, Order of Alpha Kappa; a past member of the Columbia Lions Club; a trustee emeritus of Columbia College; and a board member of Community Bank of Russellville.

Other survivors include a daughter, Shelly Minton of Overland Park, Kan.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. McCarty was born Oct. 24, 1911, in Boone County to William Vance and Matilda Sapp McCarty.

He married Dorothy Crane on June 29, 1932, in Columbia, and she survives.

He was a member of Nashville Baptist Church. As a young man he worked at the Rock Wool Plant in Easley weaving willow mats to prevent erosion. He was a farm manager for John Epple in Columbia for over 22 years. He was a truck driver for the University of Missouri-Columbia and retired from that position in 1976.

Survivors also include two sons, Frankie Lee McCarty and Era Carlton McCarty, both of Columbia; one daughter, Ina Sue Acton of Columbia; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and three sisters.

She graduated from high school in Mansfield, Ark. She and her husband were partners in the Columbia Brick and Tile Co. from 1951 to 1975.

She had been a member of the Missouri United Methodist Church in Columbia since 1951.

Judy Holland Emrick, 62, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Columbia, died Friday, March 1, 2002, in Tampa.

Services were Sunday, March 3, at First Christian Church in Dunedin, Fla.

Mrs. Emrick was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Billings, Mont., to Maynard and Iris Finkenbinder. She married Steve Emrick, and he survives.

She moved to Missouri in high school and spent most of her life in the state. She volunteered in Columbia Public Schools and was active in scouting. She was also a member of Beta Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and Broadway Christian Church. After raising her children, she moved to Texas to further her education and work in sales. She later moved to Florida, where she married her husband.

Other survivors include a son, Mark Holland of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Marla Diener of Plano, Texas, and Marti Gaye Waigandt of Columbia; her mother, Iris Peterson of Safety Harbor, Fla.; two sisters; and six grandchildren.

Mary Ann Luecke, 69, of Columbia died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Columbia.

Mrs. Luecke was born May 14, 1932, in Cincinnati to Ernest and Gertrude Westendorf Demoret.

She married Richard Harry Luecke on June 3, 1953, in Cincinnati, and he survives.

She graduated from Our Lady of Angels in Cincinnati in 1950. She and her husband moved to Columbia in 1967. She started working with the University YMCA/YWCA in 1975. After her retirement in 1989, she remained active on the YMCA/YWCA Board of Directors. In 1995, she became administrator for Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity.

Survivors also include three sons, Brad Luecke of Columbia, Greg Luecke of Ames, Iowa, and Mark Luecke of Bellingham, Wash.; two daughters, Genise Luecke of Shawnee, Kan., and Connie Roetker of Cincinnati; a brother, James Demoret of LaPorte, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ernest William Demoret; and two sisters, Ruth Diebold and Patricia Franke.

John Walter Bowman, 86, of Columbia died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 11, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with Kevin Bowman officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery in Moberly. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the funeral home.

Mr. Bowman was born Jan. 11, 1916, in Jacksonville to Reuben Abraham and Annie Pearl Polson Bowman.

He married Jewell Maxine Burnam on Dec. 21, 1935, in Moberly, and she preceded him in death.

He attended school in Jacksonville and served with the Navy in the Pacific Fleet during World War II. He was the former owner of Boone County Glass Co. He was a charter member and deacon of the Parkade Baptist Church in Columbia.

Survivors include a son, Kevin Bowman of Millstadt, Ill.; a sister, Mildred Farris of Moberly; and two grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

He married Nina Burnett on March 27, 1936, in Ashland, and she preceded him in death.

He retired from the Data Processing Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Survivors include a son, Jim Pace of Mission Hills, Kan.; two daughters, Deanna Jacobs of Columbia and Jean Ellen Abraham of Kansas City; five sisters, Dorothy Nichols, Pauline White, Ella Mae Glascock and Roberta Gardner, all of Columbia, and Della Faye Pauley of Lake Ozark; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lahmon Pace.

She married Marvin Chester Wooden in 1943 in Columbia, and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Huntsdale Baptist Church and the VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin Wooden and Steve Wooden, both of Columbia; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Katherine Roberts, 81, of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach.

Mrs. Roberts was born April 13, 1921, in Columbia to Elmer "Dick" and Ruby Williamson Hickam.

She married Joe Roberts on June 20, 1942, in Columbia, and he survives.

She was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Columbia. She also was a member of American Veterans Auxiliary Post 108 in Rocky Mount and Columbia Cosmopolitan Luncheon Club Pals.

Survivors also include two daughters, Betty Frech of Columbia and Sandy Coleman of Hallsville; a sister, Mildred McDow of Bay City, Mich.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Sullins and Bonnie Grimes.

Ruth K. Nichols, 81, of Columbia died Thursday, April 18, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Mrs. Nichols was born Jan. 30, 1921, in Ashland to Lawrence and Mable Nichols Bennett.

She married Rothie Nichols on Oct. 11, 1941, in Columbia, and he survives.

She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Columbia and was a bookkeeper at the University of Missouri-Columbia until her retirement.

Survivors also include two sons, Robert Nichols and Gary Nichols, both of Columbia; two brothers, Claude Bennett of Brazito and Jimmy Bennett of Ashland; two sisters, Opal Nichols and Shirley Schmitz, both of Jefferson City; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Howard Milton Ruth, 92, of Roseville, Calif., formerly of Columbia, died Sunday, April 21, 2002, in Roseville.

Memorial services were held April 25 in Granite Bay, Calif.

Mr. Ruth was born in Carrington, N.D., on July 13, 1909, to John and Catherine Helmann Ruth.

He married Margaret Eulalie Knudson on Nov. 24, 1938, in Atwood, Wisc., and she survives.

He graduated from Appleton High School in Appleton, Wisc., in 1928, and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a handyman. He retired in 1973 as service engineer for American Can Co.

Mr. and Mrs. Ruth were residents of Columbia from 1962 until 1981 and were members of several local square dancing clubs.

Survivors also include two sons, Lee Ruth of Jamestown and Jim Ruth of Columbia; two daughters, Peggy Hauck and Barbara Ruth, both of Granite Bay, Calif.; a sister, Mary Ruth of OshKosh, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.

John Wilbur Fagan, 58, of Columbia died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Moberly Regional Hospital.

Mr. Fagan was born July 18, 1943, in Ray County to Howard and Effie Fagan.

He was a power plant operator at the University of Missouri-Columbia for 23 years, retiring in 1993.

Mrs. Holman was born March 21, 1918, in Easley to Lloyd and Mabel Dozier.

She married Kenneth Roberts in 1936 in Columbia, and he preceded her in death. She married Raymond Holman on Nov. 17, 1984, in Miami, Okla., and he preceded her in death.

She was of the Baptist faith. She was a volunteer at the Boone Retirement Center and a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Roberts of the state of Arizona; two daughters, Brenda Rickman Werdehausen of Columbia and Gale Johnson of the state of Florida; a stepdaughter, Linda Atkins of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was a phone operator and scheduling clerk for General Telephone for 35 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was past president of the Ridgeway School PTA. She did volunteer work with foster children.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Renfro of Columbia and L. Anne Cave of Kansas City; a foster son, Billie Burns of Lawton, Okla.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was a floral designer and bookkeeper for Mueller’s and Nowell’s Floral Shops for 40 years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

Mrs. Kemper was born Nov. 19, 1914, in Boone County to Walter and Sarah Sallie Ann Fortney Rader.

She married Glenn Kemper on Feb. 3, 1934, in Columbia, and he preceded her in death after more than 63 years of marriage.

She was a member of Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville for 55 years. She worked for University Hospital from 1935 to 1939 and as a seamstress for Arcel Garment Factory from 1955 to 1957. She raised Pekingese dogs and finished four dogs to championship. She boarded dogs from 1971 to 1978, then sold the farm and moved to Columbia.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay Mitchell of Springfield, Marilyn Sunderland of Riverton, Utah, and Carolyn Kemper of Columbia; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Billie Kemper; a twin son and daughter; three brothers; and a sister.

Donna Lee Crockett, 59, of Columbia, died Monday, May 6, 2002, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis from complications after a successful bone marrow transplant.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 9, at the Forum Boulevard Christian Church, 3900 Forum Blvd. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Crockett was born April 12, 1943, in St. Louis to Sherman and Marie Nixon.

She married Bill Crockett on Oct. 26, 1963, and he survives.

She was a graduate of Auxvasse High School and worked for MFA Insurance in Columbia from 1960 until the birth of her children.

While serving as a stay-at-home mom, she operated her own typing service and then returned to work as a bookkeeper for Buchroeder’s Jewelers in 1974. In 1986 she joined her husband as the bookkeeper and general manager of the family business, Crockett Engineering Consultants.

Mrs. Crockett served on the City of Columbia’s city council representing the Third Ward from 1994 to 2001. She was also active with numerous community organizations and sponsored numerous fund-raisers for Coyote Hills Christian Home, Show-Me Children’s Youth Home, the Central Missouri Food Bank, King’s Daughters, PTA, the Columbia Senior Center and multiple other children’s charities and other philanthropic organizations.

She was an active member of the Forum Boulevard Christian Church.

Survivors also include her mother, Marie Nixon of Auxvasse; two daughters, Tamara Crockett of Hallsville and Teresa Crockett of Cumberland, Wis.; a son, Tim Crockett of Columbia; two brothers, Bill Nixon of Columbia and Richard Nixon of Boonville; and a sister, Diane Chancellor of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her father and her sister, Deborah Graves.

Mr. Estabrooks was born April 21, 1923, in Glaena, Kan., to Bert and Edna Newkirk Estabrooks.

He married Frances Whitmer on Oct. 20, 1946, in Richmond, and she survives.

He graduated from Lexington High School in Lexington, Mo., in 1941 and attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington for two years. He was a Marine Corp. veteran, serving as a captain and aviator during World War II and in the Reserves during the Korean War.

He was a registered professional engineer for the Missouri Department of Highways and Transportation. He also worked in various capacities, including serving as president, for Richardson & Bass Construction Co. until his retirement in 1985.

Survivors also include two sons, Andy Estabrooks of Columbia and Burt Estabrooks of St. Louis; a sister, Helen Fifehause of Kansas City; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Francis J. "Jim" Flood, 77, of Columbia died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Flood was born March 17, 1925, in Belfast, Ireland, to James Francis and Jane McQuaid Flood.

He married Beatrice Jane Davis on April 2, 1948. He married Ruth Mitchell on Aug. 9, 1971, in Columbia, and she preceded him in death.

He graduated from the Vincentian Institute of Albany, N.Y., in 1941. He served in the Navy as an Electronic Technician’s Mate First Class in the Pacific Ocean.

He received a bachelor’s degree with cum laude honors from Siena in 1947, and a master’s of Library Science from the State University of New York in 1948. He also received master’s degrees in Latin and Library Science from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

He served on the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1951 until his retirement in 1990, when he was awarded the title of Associate Professor Emeritus of Library Science. During his tenure with the University of Missouri-Columbia he served as a department chairman and as acting dean. He was an active member of the Alzheimer’s Association and various alumni organizations.

Survivors include three sons, James D. Flood of Dallas, John B. Flood of Columbia, and William A. Flood of The Philippines; three daughters, Phyllis Flood Knerr of Haddonfield, N.J., Elizabeth Crosby of Kingdom City and Margaret Garrett of Lenexa, Kan.; a step-daughter, Suzanne Roos of Baltimore; a sister, Maureen Lavris of Elmira, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren.

Daniel John Devine, 77, of Tempe, Ariz., formerly of Columbia, died Thursday, May 9, 2002.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 17, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix, Ariz. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery with military honors. A Dan Devine Celebration will then be held at the Carson Student Athlete Center in the Sun Devil Stadium.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 16, at the Carr-Tenney Mortuary in Tempe with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m.

Mr. Devine was born Dec. 23, 1924, in Augusta, Wis., to Jerome and Erma Devine.

He married Joanne Brookhart Devine, and she preceded him in death after 54 years of marriage.

He graduated from Proctor High School in Proctor, Minn. He served as a flight officer and trained on the B-29 bomber in the Army Air Forces during World War II.

He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He received a master’s degree from Michigan State University, an honorary doctorate from Milton College and an honorary doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Among many other honors, the University of Missouri dedicated its new indoor athletic practice facility, the Daniel J. Devine Pavilion, in 1998. Coach Devine was most proud of the stellar graduation rates and degrees of his players.

He was active in many service organizations including the Kiwanis Club, Shriner’s, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Legion, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Knights of Columbus, Missouri Squires, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was named to the White House Conference on Drug Abuse during the Reagan administration. He also contributed to the Native American Catholic Schools and missions.

Survivors include six daughters, Jennifer Husain of Columbia, Mary Jo Carver and Sarah Devine-Avery of Phoenix, Dede Yazzie Devine of Mesa, Ariz., Lisa Creagan of Decatur, Mich., and Jill Devine of Gilbert, Ariz.; a son, Dan Devine Jr. of Columbia; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include four brothers, Father Patrick Devine, Charles Devine, Gregory Devine and Gerald Devine; and three sisters, Beatrice Wykel, Mary Kurtz, and Deanna O’Melia.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Devine.

He started his business career as a deliveryman for Holsum Bakery and retired as a car salesman from Head Motor Co. He was a member of the Columbia Sportsman Club for 36 years.

Mr. Marine was born Aug. 18, 1914, in Kennett to William Henry and Dossie Waddell Marine.He married Thetis Douglass in 1934 in Piggett, Ark., and she survives.

He received a bachelor’s degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University and a master’s degree in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a teacher and principal at several schools in southeast Missouri and coached the 1947 state champion basketball team for Bloomfield High School. Upon moving to Columbia, he served as principal at Benton and West Boulevard elementary schools and as director of elementary education for Columbia Public Schools until retiring in 1980. He then operated Marine Angus Farm for more than 25 years.

He was a member of Missouri United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Kappa and many other civic organizations and was treasurer of the Missouri State Principals Association for 11 years.

Survivors also include two sons, Bill Marine of Wilmington, Ohio, and Dick Marine of Houston; a daughter, Kay Spitz of Columbia; two sisters, Vera Rollins and Mildred Evans, both of Kennett; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hewbert Marine; and a grandson, Michael Marine.

William Russell "Coach" McConnell, 58, of Columbia died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. McConnell was born March 23, 1944, in Coshocton, Ohio, to Russell and Helen McConnell. He married Betty Jo Slaybaugh in 1974 in Toledo, Ohio.

He attended Coshocton High School, where he lettered in baseball and football. He earned a bachelor’s degree at Kent State University and a master’s degree at Xavier College. He was a longtime football coach, then became a real estate agent specializing in the sale of farms and commercial and investment properties.

Survivors include his mother, of Cochocton; his ex-wife, Bea McConnell of Columbia; a son, Scott McConnell of Columbia; and a daughter, Kelly Horn of College Park, Md.

He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother, Jim McConnell.

Memorials are suggested to the Bill McConnell Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Parker Funeral Service, P.O. Box 1251, Columbia, Mo., 65205. The scholarship will be offered to a high school football player in pursuit of a college education.

Porter Rice, 94, of Columbia died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at Columbia Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with the Revs. Webster Brown and Fred Neiger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rice was born Feb. 12, 1908, in Boone County to Andrew Jackson and Rosa Ann Carlos Rice.

He married Stella Pearl Long on July 15, 1928, and she preceded him in death.

Mr. Rice worked as a custodian at West Boulevard Elementary School for 19 years. He attended Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member for 64 years and a deacon for 45 years.

Survivors include three grandchildren, Steve Rice and Jackie Rice, both of Columbia, and Charlotte Rice of Jefferson City; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Charles Edmond Rice; and two brothers, Everett Rice and Tom Rice.

Marian June Glauser, 77, of Columbia died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at her home.

In lieu of services, the family will hold a visitation at their home at 1312 Willowcreek Lane between 7 and 9 p.m. Monday, May 20, or Tuesday, May 21. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Glauser was born Sept. 28, 1924, in Tucson, Ariz., to Ernest and Bernice Granville Glass. On Nov. 12, 1944, she married Louis Glauser in Tucson, and he survives.

Mrs. Glauser moved with her husband to Columbia in 1945. She was president of Glauser Realty and became a licensed Realtor in 1956. She was named Columbia’s Realtor of the Year in 1974 and became president of the Columbia Board of Realtors in 1975. In 1981, she became president of the Missouri Association of Realtors, and she was elected Missouri Realtor of the Year in 1985. She also served on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Realtors in 1984 and 1985.

She was a Camp Fire Girl leader and president of the Columbia Jaycee Wives and the Columbia Women’s Club. She was chairman of the Community Service Committee of International Altruse of Columbia and served on the Columbia Board of Housing Standards and Appeals. She served on the board of KBIA public radio and was a member of the Board of Directors for Boone Retirement Center. She was also a member of the Grants and Loan Committee of the city of Columbia.

Other survivors include four children, Lauren Leigh Thompson of Amelia Island, Fla., Randy Glauser of Kansas City, Candece Tierney of Gainesville, Fla., and Tammy Brewer of Columbia; two sisters, Betty Russell and Helen Lochner, both of Tucson; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Iola Irene Trumbower, 88, of Columbia died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, at Calvary Episcopal Church, 123 S. Ninth St., with the Rev. Fred Thayer officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 W. Business Loop 70.

Mrs. Trumbower was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Milbank, S.D., to John and Ethel Hyatt Vipond.

She married Capt. William Trumbower on Nov. 7, 1940, in Oak Park, Ill., and he preceded her in death.

She grew up in Ortonville, Minn., and graduated from Ortonville High School in 1932. She graduated from Eitel Nursing School in Minneapolis in 1936. She finished her postgraduate work at the Margaret Hague Maternity Hospital in Jersey City, N.J., in 1938. She took the position of head nurse of the newborn nursery at the Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She moved with her husband to Columbia in 1960. She worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia Medical Center from 1960 to 1978. She worked for Dr. John Henzel from 1978 to 1994.

She was active in Calvary Episcopal Church.

She was a member of the Missouri Nurses Association.

Survivors include a son, William Trumbower of Columbia; a daughter, Mary Swearingen of Columbia; a brother, Harold Vipond of Windsor, Calif.; and three grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; two stepsons, Fred Trumbower and Charles Trumbower; and a brother, Lawrence Vipond.

Everette B. Hopper, 85, of Columbia died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Boone Hospital Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, in Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with John Yonker officiating.

Mr. Hopper was born Aug. 13, 1916, in Moberly to Marvin Floyd and Sophia Hellensmith Dunivent.

He married Maxine Hudson on May 31, 1941, in Columbia, and she survives.

Survivors also include a daughter, Monica Thurston of Columbia; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald Hopper.

Keith C. Hopper, 72, of Columbia died Monday, May 27, 2002, at University Hospital.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 W. Business Loop 70, with the Rev. Sam Timbrook officiating. Military graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at the funeral home.

Mr. Hopper was born May 14, 1930, in Rocheport to Cordie James and Myrtle Ida Nelson Hopper.

He married Esther Marie Lea on Jan. 13, 1957, in Kirksville, and she survives.

Mr. Hopper served in the Army during the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He was employed with the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of the Prairie Grove Baptist Church, the American Legion, and AARP.

Other survivors include two daughters, Janet McGee and Lynne Noel, both of Columbia; a sister, Wanda Hunker of Columbia; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James Earl Hopper, and a brother, Wendell James Hopper.

William "Billy" Wright, 80, of Columbia died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Columbia.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2002, at Second Baptist Church, 407 E. Broadway, with the Rev. Donald R. McNeal officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Warren Funeral Chapel, 12 E. Ash. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Wright was born May 23, 1922, in Tulsa, Okla., to Thomas R. and Edith Brown Wright.

He married Mary Talia Wright, and she survives.

He was a member of Log Providence Baptist Church in Columbia. He was formerly employed at Truman Memorial Veteran’s Hospital. He retired in 1991 after 15 years. He served in the Army during World War II.

Survivors also include six daughters, Alice J. Grant and Karen E. Warren, both of Columbia, Sheridan McQuitty of Fayette, Helen Collins of Kansas City, Margaret J. Lawson of Dallas and Alice Prince of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sisters, Helen Brown and Lilla M. Jefferson, both of Columbia; four brothers, Maurice Wright of Columbia, Melvin Wright of Hawthorne, Calif., Thomas Wright of Marion, Ind., and James Wright of Omaha, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 26 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons.

Louis Junior Kinney, 66, of Lafayette, Colo., died Monday, May 27, 2002, in Louisville, Colo.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002, at Warren Funeral Chapel in Columbia. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, at Warren Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Kinney was born Nov. 10, 1935, in Blackwater to Louis Kinney and Leona Whitley Kinney.

He married Glenda K. Branham on Aug. 6, 1971, in Sedalia and she survives.

Mr. Kinney was a member of the Church of Christ in Longmont, Colo. He previously lived in Tucson, Ariz. He moved to Lafayette, Colo., in 1993. He was inducted into the Columbia Bowling Hall of Fame in 1997.

Survivors include three sons, Louis Kinney of Des Moines, Iowa, Kirklin Kinney of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kelton Kinney of Lafayette, Colo.; eight daughters, Sonja Barnes and Evelyn Coleman, both of Columbia, Alissa Walker, Donna Walker, Regina Wright and Lynette Weatherby, all of Des Moines, Iowa, Robin Coleman of Seattle, Wash., Kecia D. Kinney of Lafayette; a brother, Marvin Kinney of Columbia; four sisters, Carole Jones and Ann Wright, both of Columbia, Dorothy Palmer of Colorado Springs and Stella Day of St. Louis; and 29 grandchildren.
