Don & Priscilla Giltner

I am originally from Clinton, Kentucky. and Don is from Branson, Missouri.  We met at Murray State University, and we married in 1958.

We moved to Louisiana in 1959, and Don taught Social Studies at the High School.  I stayed at home with our first child and subbed a bit.

Don became Junior High principal in the fall of 1962, and I started teaching at the High School in the fall of 1963.

Don started the second Middle School in the state in the fall of 1964, and then went to the High School as principal in 1969.  He was principal at the High School for 13 years.

Then in 1982, he became Administrative Assistant and retired from that position in 1987.

After retirement, he went to work at Fowler Lumber Co. and worked there 14 years.  I subbed for 10 years after I retired in 1987, and I now am one of the Home Bound teachers for the Louisiana R-II School District.  We meet one-on-one with students who have been removed from school for disciplinary reasons.  They are not allowed on the school grounds, so we meet at the Louisiana Public Library.

Don and I enjoy traveling, and we love to work on our home.  That is our main hobby.  We have made quite a showplace of a 90-year-old house on South 6th Street.  We also enjoy our four children, our seven grandchildren, and especially our little poodle, Mac.  We thoroughly enjoyed the years we spent in the school business and we appreciate the fact that many of our former students still remember us and seek us out.  We feel quite rewarded for our efforts.
