Mike Bonen May 10, 2008

After high school I went to work for a construction company for about 4 years and decided I needed a change.  I became a volunteer firefighter (Boone County Fire), and decided to be a career fireman.  I went to Hannibal-LaGrange College to get my Paramedic education, and then I was hired at the Lee's Summit Fire Department, a suburb in KC, in which I also currently live.  I also work in an Emergency Room as a Paramedic at St. Luke's Hospital.  I am currently pursuing a nursing degree.  I am happily married to Tiffany (Class of '92), and have 2 kids, Austin and Samantha.
John Everson April 21, 2008

Graduated from MU (Columbia) in 1993 with a degree in Computer Science. Went to work for Sprint in Kansas City at the end of 1994. Been there ever since, in various departments ranging from data networking, e-mail and directory services, public key infrastructure (and other data security stuff), and now I'm in the Research & Development organization. Got married in 2000, and have two daughters: Piper in 2004 and Natalie in 2006.

Kurt Gebhardt September 24, 2001

Hello everyone who graduated in 1986!!  After leaving high school I left for the United States Air Force where I served a four year enlistment!!  I was stationed at Travis A.F.B. in California for those four years!  I was a loadmaster on C-141B cargo planes.  I have been to approximately 27 different countries and islands.  (The shopping is great in Korea if you like the name Rebok).  I was Honorably discharged in 1990.  I attended Central Missouri State and graduated with a B.S. degree in Aviation Technology in the summer of 1994.  I have a 6 year old daughter named Kaitlyn Jayne Gebhardt.  I currently work for USF DUGAN, a trucking company here in Columbia, so if you see one of our trucks, wave!!  I enjoy the outdoors, walking, cycling, swimming, and investing.  I belong to Christian Fellowship and attend regularly.  Life is short, so have fun, and hope all of you are doing fine!!
Patrick Gholson October 7, 2002

I STARTED OUT SLOWLY, AFTER HIGH SCHOOL I TRIED TO GO TO MU BUT MY HEART WASN’T IN IT.  I STARTED WORKING AS A UNION PIPEFITTER.  AFTER COMPLETING THE APPRENTICESHIP I STARTED TAKING A FEW CLASSES HERE AND THERE.  THEN I GOT A WILD HAIR AND QUIT MY JOB AND STARTED BACK TO SCHOOL.  I GRADUATED (ON THE DEANS LIST) IN MAY WITH A BS IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING.  WITH MY BACKGROUND I FOUND A GOOD JOB AND I’M RIGHT NOW IN VEGAS BUILDING A POWER PLANT.
Howard Helvey (Class of 1986) June 24, 2001

Howard Helvey resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he is active as a composer, arranger and pianist; and serves as organist/choirmaster of historic Calvary Episcopal Church.  Nationally, he appears often as a guest choral composer, conductor, and speaker.  As a pianist, Mr. Helvey frequently collaborates with distinguished artist Richard Steinbach in concerts and recordings of four-hand piano literature.  Recent highlights include performances in San Francisco, Chicago, Kansas City, Aspen, Cincinnati, Houston, Toronto and London—as well as television appearances in the United States and Canada.  March of 2000 included a program in Minneapolis, Minnesota for the national convention of the Music Teachers National Association, and early 2001 saw the release of their critically-acclaimed debut CD recording.  Originally from Missouri, Mr. Helvey holds a Bachelor of Music degree in composition from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master of Music degree in composition and piano performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music.  Designated in 1987 an undergraduate Chautauqua Scholar, he pursued additional studies in piano at New York’s Chautauqua Institution.  Known particularly for his published choral music, Mr. Helvey’s compositions have recently been featured on various recordings, national PBS and network television broadcasts, and in such distinguished concert venues as New York’s Carnegie Hall, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., and numerous locations throughout Europe and Asia.  A lover of the sonnet form, and recently published additionally as a poet, Mr. Helvey also enjoys hymnology, physical fitness, and playing with his two border collies.
Christi Johnston (Class of 1986) August 14, 2002

After graduating from high school I attended Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville where I majored in Criminal Justice.  I then graduated from the Law Enforcement Training Institute at MU and had a short lived career in law enforcement as a 911 dispatcher at MU Police Department.  I then moved to Kansas City and graduated from Rockhurst University in Paralegal Studies.  I was married in October of 94, had my beautiful baby boy, Ryan in December of 97 and divorced in April of 99.  I consider myself lucky to say I am still good friends with my ex-husband.  How many divorcees can say that!?!  I worked as a paralegal for several years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company's in-house legal department in Kansas City before taking the gamble of my life with a Las Vegas casino dealer and moved to Vegas.  Thank goodness I didn't marry him as this one lasted less than a year.  I am now back in Kansas City enjoying the midwest lifestyle I thought I'd never miss. I work for a medical malpractice defense firm in Westport and my son and I are healthy and happy...LIFE IS GOOD.  Hope all is well with my fellow Kewpie classmates!

I went to college at NMSU from 86-89, then transferred to MU and graduated in 92 with a BSE in PE and Health. Edward Singleton (Class of 1986) October 21, 2001

I develop software for Shelter Insurance Companies and my wife teaches 5th grade at Fairview Elementary School.  Our favorite things are traveling and music.  We travel every chance we get and are both members of the Columbia Community Band.  I play timpani and Megan plays clarinet.  My favorite classes in high school were band and computer programming.  Imagine that.
Julie Slivinsky November 18, 2002

Hi to fellow classmates!  After HS, I went to Grinnell College, got a B.A. in history, moved to Portland, OR, worked in a clinic, moved to Costa Rica, started nursing school, married a Costa Rican, we moved to Minneapolis, I finished nursing school, we moved to Phoenix, AZ area, now I work at Phoenix Children's Hospital and we have two kids.  Whew!
Mike Taylor July 24, 2002

Following high school, I attended Northeast Missouri State in Kirksville (I simply can't call it Truman St....I can't, I can't do it!)  In college, I met my future wife Kris, who is a Chemist (i.e. she makes drugs!!).  I graduated in 1990 with Poli Sci degree.  Two choices:  teach or law school.  I caved in...graduated from law school in 1994.  They lied to me...most lawyers don't make more money than teachers.  I entered private practice in Kansas City and Kris and I married in 1995.  We have two absolutely beautiful daughters-- Emma (11/99) and Rachel (5/02).  Thank god they look like their mom.  In June, 2002, I spurned the opulent Country Club Plaza law firm and opened my own law firm in rural Raymore, Missouri.  My office is strategically placed in front of the only stoplight in town.  I've never had more fun and I thoroughly enjoy the half-hour drive from suburban Kansas City to the country.

Benjamin Trout (Class of 1986) March 4, 2002
