More than 80 RSVP volunteers and their guests dusted off their dancing shoes and participated in our annual Seniors for Senior Prom on April 27.

Each year Hickman High School Senior Government co-hosts this event with RSVP to recognize the volunteer efforts this generous group contributes to our community.

With music provided by “Crazy” Charley Blackmore (his 6th year participating in this event), both generations came together to enjoy music of the 1940’s, food, and fun.

Besides dancing, this year’s event featured entertainment provided by some very special guests. One of our volunteers, Betty Cook Rottman, with her accompanist, Neil Minturn, performed a wonderfully inspiring rendition of Frank Sinatra’s hit song “My Way.”

Thank you Betty and Neil! We also want to express our gratitude to Ms. Robin Steinhaus for working with us to provide extra special entertainment by Hickman students performing several numbers from their latest musical “Good News.”

A huge thank you goes out to Ms. Jamie Thornsbeny, Student Government Advisor, for her help in coordinating this event, as well as to the students for their efforts in hosting this event and for providing beautiful carnation corsages.

Each attendee received a gift bag of items graciously donated by Hallmark and Ann Gilchrist of Foster Grandparents. This program also donated our door prizes.

We would like to thank HyVee for catering this event and Sunshine Linen for providing the tablecloths.

Thanks also to staff family members acting as Event Volunteers. We appreciate your help.

Ed Curtis, 82, and Maddie Schill, 18, dance during the Seniors for
Seniors prom yesterday at Hickman High School.
The dance is sponsored by the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program
and the Hickman student government.
“It’s a great chance to meet with all the volunteers, and I enjoy
meeting all the young people,” Curtis said.
