Stephen R. Holmes, 51, of Columbia died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Columbia.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Midway Locust Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Sarah Evans officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until services Sunday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Nilson Funeral Home.

Mr. Holmes was born Nov. 4, 1949, in Columbia to Paul and Ruth Price Holmes. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1968.

Survivors include his mother of Columbia; two brothers, Fred Holmes and David Holmes, both of Columbia; a sister, Patricia Irwin of Columbia; and his fiancee, Cyndi Saunders of Keokuk, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Kimberly Dawn Ricketts, 27, of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 8, at the Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Abel Chappell Sr. officiating. Visitation will take place between 5 and 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, at Warren Funeral Chapel.

Ms. Ricketts was born Jan. 4, 1973, in Columbia to Abel Chappell Jr. and Debra Ricketts. She attended Columbia Public Schools.

She is survived by her parents; two daughters, Toneisha Ricketts and Kimon Ricketts, both of Columbia; a brother, Abel Chappell III of Columbia; a sister, Stephanie Stapleton of Columbia; a maternal grandfather, Randolph Ricketts of Columbia; and paternal grandparents, the Rev. Abel Chappell Sr. and Lula Chappell of Oxnard, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Barbara Hickam.

Kenneth D. Perry, 66, of Jerseyville, Ill., formerly of Columbia, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.
His body has been cremated and will be buried in Columbia Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Mr. Perry was born Dec. 17, 1934, in Columbia to Walter and Edith Baker Perry. He married Joanne Stanley Lindwedel on Oct. 2, 1972, in St. Louis, and she survives.

Mr. Perry grew up in Columbia and graduated from Hickman High School. He served in the Army. He was a musician and helped many churches establish music programs. He was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville.

Survivors also include a daughter, Roberta Darlene Perry Smolenski of Michigan City, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Susan Gernigin of Overland; two sisters, Patty Wilhite of Clark and Marjorie Comley of Columbia, and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Roy Bradford Coose, and a brother, Robert Perry.

Memorials are suggested to the Gospel Assembly Church in Jerseyville, Ill.

Tresa E. "Scrubbs" Scruggs, 19, of Columbia died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Columbia as the result of injuries from an automobile accident.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Parker Funeral Service. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home.

Ms. Scruggs was born June 14, 1981, to Robert Scruggs and Virginia "Ginnie" Wren.

She lived her entire life in Columbia.

She was attending Douglass High School and had previously attended Hickman High School.

Survivors include her mother of Columbia; her father of Billings, Mont.; four brothers, Matthew Atwood, Michael Atwood and Justin Green, all of Columbia, and Kyle Scruggs of North Bend, Wash.; a sister, Cassandra Scruggs of North Bend, Wash.; her paternal grandparents, Robert and Vicki Scruggs of Columbia; and a grandmother, Mary Bowman of the state of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents.

Gabe Greenway Feutz, 18, of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at University Hospital.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at Broadway Christian Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Funeral Service.

Mr. Feutz was born June 25, 1982, in Rocheport to Eric Feutz and Mirra Greenway.

He attended Hickman High School and Douglass High School. He was employed as an office clerk for attorney Kylar Broadus and also at Greenway Massage Co.

Survivors include his father, of Columbia; his mother, of Columbia; his stepmother, Grace Feutz of Columbia; two brothers, Brandt Feutz and Ethan Feutz, both of Columbia; and a stepbrother, Kevin Greenway of Caruthersville.

Sandra Lee Taylor, 51, of St. Louis died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in St. Louis.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at St. Paul AME Church with the Rev. David Ballenger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Warren Funeral Chapel.

Ms. Taylor was born Aug. 10, 1949, in Columbia to Sehon and Dora Coats Williams Jr.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She had been a high school teacher in Detroit and most recently taught at Kirkwood High School in Kirkwood. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority and the Kirk of the Woods Presbyterian Church in St. Louis.

Survivors include her father, of Columbia; her mother, of Columbia; two sons, Kip Taylor and Kamron Taylor, both of St. Louis; a daughter, Karsee Taylor of St. Louis; and two sisters, Senora Christopher of Oklahoma City and Bobbia Banton of Indianapolis.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Terry Lamont Williams.

Shawn Patrick Christopher Spencer, 23, of Lincoln, Neb., and formerly of Columbia, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Lincoln.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Wilkes Boulevard Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mr. Spencer was born Jan. 2, 1978, in Columbia.

He graduated in 1996 from Hickman High School, where he played football. He was an apprentice with Wolfe Electric in Lincoln and became a licensed journeyman electrician in June 2000.

Survivors include his parents, Kenneth and Cheryl Spencer of Columbia; his fiancee, Becky House of Lincoln; a brother, Russell Spencer of Columbia; and two sisters, Robin Morrison and Angela Pigg, both of Columbia.

Dorothy Fern Hickam, 89, of Columbia died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Parker officiating. There will be no visitation. Services are under the arrangement of Parker Funeral Service.

Ms. Hickam was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Boone County to Owen and Nellie Alice Roddy Hickam.

She graduated from Hickman High School in 1929 and was a charter member of Aphelia Shepherd Extension and of the Rock Bridge Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association. She also was a member of the Boone County Democrat Club, Warren Extension and Kings Daughters. She worked for more than 38 years in the Boone County assessor’s office.

Survivors include two nieces, Linda Hickam of Thompson and Mary Snyder of Washington, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Inez Hickam of Columbia; and three great-nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim Ed Hickam.

Mark Edward Scott, 45, of Independence, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Boone Hospital Center.

Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs.

Mr. Scott was born May 6, 1955, in Sweet Springs.

He attended Hickman High School and was a 1977 graduate of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He owned a operated two sales and marketing recruiting businesses in Independence.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Scott of Independence; two sons, Brandon Scott and Tyler Scott, both of Independence; his mother, Marlene Scott of Blue Springs; and two brothers, Greg Scott of Columbia and Tim Scott of Kansas City.

Lois Lorene Wells, 84, of Grandview, and formerly of Joplin, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Life Care Center of Grandview.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Monday until services at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Mrs. Wells was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Fulton to O.H. Wilkerson and Mary Aurie Rankin Wilkerson. On July 21, 1935, she married Capt. Richard Reed Wells in Fulton, and he preceded her in death.

She was raised in rural Fulton and lived in Joplin from 1935 to 1941 and in Columbia from 1951 to 1983, when she moved to the Kansas City area. A homemaker, she had also worked as a bookkeeper and secretary to the circulation manager of the Dallas Times Herald and station manager of KRLD-TV in Dallas.

She was an avid equestrian in her youth and taught horsemanship at William Woods College in Fulton. She was a member of Millersburg Christian Church.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Wells of Lake Ozark, Gary Wells of Grandview and Charles Wells of Lee’s Summit; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

John S. Gordon, 75, of Columbia died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Boone Retirement Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Jim Cunningham officiating. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Gordon was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Ohio to Earl and Mildred Everly Gordon. On Jan. 19, 1962, he married Betty Jones in Fulton, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1942 and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia for one year. He then joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II from 1943 to 1945 in the Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland campaigns. He earned a Purple Heart with a Bronze Cluster, an American Theater Ribbon, an EAMC Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars and the Victory Medal of World War II.

Mr. Gordon managed the Singer Sewing Machine Co. for many years and was an independent agent for several insurance companies until he retired. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 280 and a member of the American League and Disabled American Veterans.

Other survivors include four sons, John Steven Gordon of Wichita, Kan., Michael Hayes Gordon of Fulton, John Gregory Gordon of Kansas City and Kenneth Jones of Columbia; two daughters, Patricia Lee Reed of Columbia and Barbara Sue Gordon of Castleton, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Mary Frances Nall, 86, of Columbia died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at The Williamsburg.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Memorial Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Keith officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until services Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nall was born March 10, 1914, in Boone County to James Dorsey and Lillie Dee Jacobs Grant.

She married Russell Nall on Sept. 30, 1949, in Columbia, and he preceded her in death.

She had worked in the business office at Stephens College and at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She was a member of Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church and of the church’s United Methodist Women and Deborah Circle.

Survivors include two brothers, David Grant and Robert Grant, both of Columbia; and a sister, Beatrice Smith of Columbia.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Doris Athy; two brothers, Cecil Grant and Elijah Grant; and a sister, Hazel.

Marilyn "Suzie" Burks, 58, of Columbia died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Columbia Regional Hospital.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at Nilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the funeral home.

Mrs. Burks was born Dec. 3, 1942, in Boone County to James and Myrtle Acton Turner.

She married Luther Burks on Aug. 27, 1965, in Boone County, and he survives.

She was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Harrisburg.

Mrs. Ehler was born Nov. 1, 1955, in Trenton to Bill and Darlene Kilburn. On Aug. 18, 1974, she married Harold Thomas Ehler, and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of Red Top Christian Church in Hallsville. She graduated from Hickman High School in 1974.

Mrs. Ehler was a member of the American Cancer Association.

Survivors include her parents, of Columbia; and two sons, Thomas Joe Ehler and Terry Dean Ehler, both of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by a brother.

James T. Moore, 84, of Columbia died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at his home.

Mr. Moore was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Memphis, Mo., to Charlie Frank and Mary Miller Moore.

He married Nadine Douglass on July 12, 1941, in Independence, and she preceded him in death.

He was the owner of James T. Moore Construction for 26 years.

Survivors include a son, Michael Moore of Columbia; two sisters, Janet McMickle Roddy and Helen Wiggins, both of Columbia; a brother, Morris Moore of Columbia; and a granddaughter.

He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Moore, Sam Moore and John Moore.

Edwin D. Walter, 82, of Troy, Ala., died Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at his home.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy with the Rev. Danny Doss officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Mr. Walter was born in 1918 in Columbia to Russell and Verne Walter. He married Millie Smith on Dec. 4, 1943, in Columbia, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1936 and received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the Air Force during World War II as a pilot and remained active in the 8th Air Force Historical Society, 486 Bomb Group Association and was commander of the Central Alabama Wing.

He taught English and art at Hickman High School for two years and later became of a professor of art at MU. He also taught at Oklahoma City University and Florida State University. He was an art professor at Troy State University for 39 years. Walter, an associate professor of art, emeritus, continued to work as a glass artist after his retirement.

He was a member of the Troy Kiwanis Club, Troy Music Club and First United Methodist Church of Troy, where he sang in the choir.

Survivors also include two daughters, Linda Walter of Troy and Carolyn Walter of Eureka Springs, Ark.; a son, David Walter of Troy; two brothers, Dan Walter of the state of Illinois and Fred Walter of the state of California; a sister-in-law, Vel Walter of Columbia; and a granddaughter.

Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Troy, the 8th Air Force Historical Society or the 8th Air Force Heritage Museum.

Thomas Johnny Ludwigsen, 50, of Austin, Texas, died Thursday, March 1, 2001.

Mr. Ludwigsen was born Nov. 21, 1950, in Manchester, England, to Earl Ludwigsen and Frances Wells.

Ludwigsen moved with his family to Columbia in 1964. He graduated from Hickman High School in 1968. He served in the Air Force until 1972. He returned to Columbia and worked at 3M. In 1983, he was transferred to Austin.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Ludwigsen; a brother, Paul Ludwigsen of Peoria, Ill.; and sister, Susan Wright of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1947 and served in the Navy during the Korean War from 1950-54. He was a member of the VFW and BPOE Elks No. 594.

Survivors also include two daughters, Heather Pace and Hollis Foster, both of Columbia; a stepdaughter, Linda LaVere Cole of Landers, Calif.; a brother, M.D. Pace of Columbia; five sisters, Dorothy Nichols, Pauline White, Ella Mae Glascock and Roberta Gardner, all of Columbia, and Della Faye Pauley of Rocky Mount; and two grandchildren.

He and his wife owned Acme Plumbing & Heating Co. in Columbia for 40 years.

He coached boys baseball for more than 12 years.

Survivors include a son, John Charles Hunt of St. Louis; a daughter, Judith Hunt of Franklin County; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.

Virginia May "Ginny" Merideth Longmire, 82, of Oklahoma City, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, in Oklahoma.

Mrs. Longmire was born July 10, 1918, in Columbia to Eugene and Willy Merideth.

She married John Longmire on July 23, 1938, in Hannibal, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Hickman High School. She loved gardening and golf.

Survivors include two sons, John Longmire of Edmond, Okla., and David Longmire of Oklahoma City; one daughter Mary Jo "Jody" Bringaze of Yukon, Okla.; six brothers, Bill Merideth of Oceanside, Calif., Jim Merideth of Yucaipa, Calif., Jack Merideth of Altadena, Calif., Joe Merideth of San Marino, Calif., George Merideth of Fulton and Charles Merideth of Columbia; two sisters, Mary Jean Arrandale of Moberly and Maxine Johnson of Columbia; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Julia Stewart.

Survivors also include two daughters, Linda Carol Williams of Columbia and Cindy Leah Baker of Peculiar; a son, Thomas Wesley Weaver of Gardner, Kan., and three grandchildren.

Paul Edward Kemp, 73, of Columbia died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Regional Care Center.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, at Memorial Funeral Home with Jim Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in Columbia Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the funeral home.

Mr. Kemp was born Aug. 5, 1927, in Columbia to Robert and Virginia Dawson Kemp. On July 29, 1950, he married Ann Craven, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1945 and joined the U.S. Navy Seabees. He served a year in the South Pacific and remained in the Naval Reserves for several years. In 1952 he was recalled to active duty and served a year with the Seabees in Newfoundland. He was a barber in Columbia for 37 years, operating his own shop, Shear Magic, on Paris Road. He was a member of VFW Post 280, where he served in many capacities including the office of quartermaster for four years. He was also a member of Elks Lodge 594 and was elected exalted ruler in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion and the MCB-6 Association. He was also active with the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon.

Other survivors include a son, Brian Paul Kemp of Columbia; a daughter, Barbara Lee Reeder of Centralia; a brother, Charles Kemp of San Diego, Calif.; two sisters, Frances Simmons of Overland and Wilma McCanne of Dexter; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Joe D. Vale, 78, of St. Joseph died Monday, March 19, 2001, in St. Joseph.

Mr. Vale was born April 1, 1922, near Norborne to Joe and Sophia Minteer Vale.

He married Colleen Spencer in 1946, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School and from the University of Missouri College of Engineering in 1948.

He served in the Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinists Mate First Class. He was past master of St. Joseph Lodge No. 78, AF&A M, a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite mason, member of Veterans of Foreign War, Pony Express Post No. 359, American Legion and Missouri Society of Professional Engineers.

Survivors also include two sons, Joe Vale Jr. of Columbia and John Vale of St. Joseph; one daughter, Sandra Fry of St. Joseph; a brother, Kenneth Vale of Columbia; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Audrey Elaine Stappenbeck, 41, of Austin, Texas, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center.

Ms. Stappenbeck was born June 17, 1959, in San Antonio to Herb and Barbara Pickard Stappenbeck.

She was a 1977 graduate of Rock Bridge High School and received a master’s degree in math education from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

She was a teacher and director of plays for 10 years at Blair Oaks High School in Wardsville. In August 2000, she moved to Austin, where she was a teacher at Del Valle High School.

A former member of Marching Mizzou and a member of the Marching Mizzou Alumni Band, she also belonged to the Missouri Federation of Teachers and Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Jefferson City.

Survivors include her parents of Gadsden, Ala., and two brothers, Gregory Stappenbeck of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Stephen Stappenbeck of Austin.

Mr. Powell was born May 4, 1920, near McBaine to William and Maria Hume Powell.

He married Juanita Christeen Gibbs on June 23, 1946, at First Christian Church, and she preceded him in death.

He served in the Army from 1942-45. He was a staff sergeant of the First Platoon of Company C. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Medal, a Bronze Service Star, a Purple Heart and an overseas service bar.

He attended the University of Missouri, and he and his wife were charter members of Broadway Christian Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 202; VFW Post No. 280; Disabled American Veterans, Jefferson City Chapter; Habitat for Humanity and Meals on Wheels.

Mr. Powell had worked for Deering Architect Co. and later at Riback Pipe and Steel. He retired from Knipp Construction Co. after 23 years of service.

Survivors include a son, William Daniel Powell III of Odessa; three daughters, Rebecca Boettcher of Indialantic, Fla., Barbara Spencer of Columbia and Roberta Wilson of Gravois Mills; two sisters, Sarah Crane of Columbia and Irene Hubble of Sturgeon; 13 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

He had been a volunteer at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center.

Bremerton resident Martha Godfrey Schaeffer, 56, died of heart failure March 21, 2001, at home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1944, in Wyoming, Iowa, to Paul and Dorothy Godfrey. She was a 1962 graduate of Hichman High School in Columbia, Mo. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1966 from the University of Missouri and her master's degree in 1968 from the University of Oregon. Later, she attended the University of Puget Sound Law School, graduating in 1987.

She married Philip Schaeffer June 28, 1969, in Columbia, Mo.  She taught history at Olympic College for 15 years and later practiced law for 13 years.  She was a member of the A.H. Chapter of P.E.O. and former president of Presbyterian Ministries, Inc. She was a member of Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Kyle of Olympia and Hugh of Buffalo, N.Y.; a twin brother, Paul Godfrey of New Windsor, N.Y.; and two sisters, Helen Gill of Springfield, Va., and Charlotte Cole of Mount Vernon, Mo.

A memorial service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Central Kitsap Presbyterian Church in Bremerton.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1938 and was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, David Earl Wilhite of Santa Maria, Calif., and Thomas Ray Wilhite of Dallas; two daughters, Linda Jean West of Wildwood and Donna Gayle Noyes of Duncanville, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.

Mrs. Starke was born July 27, 1922, in Columbia to Lonnie Ray and Belva Lee Swearingen Cook. She married Ellwood Short, who preceded her in death. She then married William L. McAlpin, and he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Starke lived her entire life in Columbia. She was a 1939 graduate of Hickman High School. She worked for the A&P grocery store and for 23 years at the J.C. Penney store. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge Auxiliary and the Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ellwood D. Short of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Levina Elaine Summers of Columbia; a sister, Grace Stephens of Barberton, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, a daughter and four brothers.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Kaye Teater of Lakewood, Colo., and Kathy Keth of Oak Grove; two sons, Kenneth Earl Keth of Longwood, Fla., and Kirby John Keth of Jefferson City; a sister, Mildred Hilgedick of Butler; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Irene Boswell, Agnes Goetting and Ella Goetting.

Mr. Morton was a 1949 graduate of Hickman High School. He was a truck driver for MFA Oil Co. in Columbia, a former officer for the Columbia Police Department and was the first police dog handler for the department in 1961.

He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Mr. Barnes was born April 17, 1926, in Columbia to Joe and Mettie Croswhite Barnes.

He married Virginia Ruth Itschner, and she preceded him in death. He later married Jacquelyn Ann Gundersen on July 23, 1988, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1944 and since 1957 had organized and hosted class reunions. He also was responsible for sending the annual class newsletter.

In 1950, he graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was marshal of his college graduating class and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and the Beta Gamma Sigma scholastic honor fraternity.

Mr. Barnes worked for GTE for many years. He received the Book of Golden Deeds Award and was elected to the Wisconsin State Telephone Association.

He was president for many years of the Badger State Telephone Pioneers and was chairman of the fund-raising committee of the Friends of the Sun Prairie Public Library. He also was chairman of the library’s board of trustees.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Madison, Wis.

Survivors also include a son, R. Bruce Barnes of Sun Prairie; a daughter, Sandra Gurm of Morrow, Ohio; a brother, Maurice Barnes of Gladstone; a sister, Jeanette Marie Barnes of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Hudnell graduated from Hickman High School in 1941. He served with the Coast Guard during World War II. He was employed by the Columbia Fire Department for 31 years, retiring as battalion chief in 1982. He was a member of the Harrisburg Christian Church.

Mr. Oliver graduated from Hickman High School. He served with the Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a CPA for Williams, Keepers, Oliver, Racker & Payne in Columbia and retired in 1975. Mr. Oliver was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans. He was a York Rite Mason and Shriner. He was a life member of the Missouri Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Survivors also include two sons, Charles Oliver Jr., of Boulder, Colo., and William Oliver of Columbia; three stepchildren, Judith Anderson Johnson of Merriam, Kan., Marc Anderson and Wayne Anderson, both of Columbia; three brothers: Frank Oliver, Jack Oliver and Richard Oliver, all of Columbia; a sister, Mary Frances Reddick of Mexico, Mo.; four grandsons; and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Elder was born Jan. 12, 1930, in Columbia to William and Hattie Carnes Elder. In 1954 he married Billie Rhodes in Kansas City, and she preceded him in death. On Sept. 18, 1976, he married Joy Roberts in Springfield, and she preceded him in death. On Oct. 17, 1997, he married Penny Barnhart in Jefferson City, and she survives.

He served in the Army. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Aleppo Grotto Shriners, the Tiger Shrine Club and the Masonic Twilight Lodge.

He also performed with the Shrine Motor Patrol and was a member of a national award-winning patrol in 1964 in New York.

Dr. Johnson was born June 5, 1944, in Greenwich, Conn., to Clayton H. Johnson II and Louise Kuhn Johnson.

He married Eleanor Jane Gallivan on Sept. 9, 1972, in New Madrid, and she preceded him in death.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1962 and received a zoology degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He received his doctor of dental surgery degree from Washington University. He was a veteran of the Navy with 20 years of service. He served during the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy as a captain.

He operated his own dentistry business and retired in July 2000. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, a member and past commander of VFW Post No. 4345. He was also a member of the Shooters Club, Parish Council, Republican Club and Moniteau Committee Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include three daughters, Emily Johnson and Virginia Johnson of Columbia and Letitia Johnson of California; and a brother, George Johnson of Springfield.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Roberts-Anderson was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Columbia to Raymond and Louise Smith Roberts. She married Ronnie Anderson in Columbia in 1963.

Other survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Anderson and Crissy Anderson, both of Columbia; two brothers, Tony Roberts and Raymond Roberts, both of Columbia; and four sisters, Judy Sapp, Jeanie Anderson, Susan Branson and Debbie Henry, all of Columbia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jimmy Roberts; and a grandchild.

Albert Ray Gilmore Sr., 70, of Jefferson City died Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital in Columbia.

Mr. Gilmore was born Jan. 3, 1931, in Boone County to Harry Leroy Gilmore and Mamie Bradley Gilmore.

On Feb. 16, 1958, he married Julia Ann Kresse in Columbia, and she survives.

Mr. Gilmore was a 1948 graduate of Hickman High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart.

He worked for 17 years as a manager with Western Auto Co. in Columbia. He was also a sales manager with Combined Insurance Co. for three years. He retired after 17 years of work with Westlake Hardware in Jefferson City. He then worked part time for Rainbow Market Car Wash.

He was a member of New Life Ministries and of Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbia.

Other survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn Gilmore of Jefferson City; three sons, Albert Gilmore Jr. of Russellville, Harry Gilmore of New Bloomfield and David Gilmore of Jefferson City; two sisters, Margaret Wood of Columbia and Peggy Rhoades of Sturgeon; three brothers, Jack Gilmore and Bradley Gilmore, both of Columbia, and James Gilmore of Stover; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Forestine Wallace; and an infant sister.

Michael Jeffrey Barker, 35, of Seattle, formerly of Columbia, died July 10, 2000, while kayaking the Cascade River near Marblemount, Wash.

Mr. Barker was born March 3, 1965, in Rockford, Ill., to Richard and Mary Sue Barker.

He attended Hickman High School, the University of Missouri-Columbia and Bolivar Baptist College. He had been employed as a white-water rafting guide in Chattanooga, Tenn., for five years before moving to Seattle. He volunteered as a teenager with the Teen Missions organization and helped build an airstrip in Peru and a church in South Africa. He attended the Memorial Baptist Church while living in Columbia.

Survivors include his parents of Columbia; a sister, Regina Mueller of Climax Springs; his grandparents, Zelma Lawson of Oakford, Ind., and Russell and Virginia Sherfield of Dexter; and a stepgrandmother, Cleo Barker of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Frank Barker; and a stepgrandfather, Les Lawson.

He married Leeta Dell Lane in 1935, and she survives. On June 2, 2001, they celebrated 66 years of marriage.

He was a 1934 graduate of Hickman High School and later studied art, drafting and architectural design. He began a career as a draftsman with A.B. Chance in Centralia. Later, he was a manager of LaCrosse Lumber Co. in Columbia. He was a home builder for 45 years. In retirement he restored antiques, built fine cabinetry and raised red angus cattle.

He was a member of Locust Grove United Methodist Church for 46 years. He also was a member of Twilight Lodge No. 114 AF&AM, Moolah Temple, St. Graal Commandry No. 12 KT, Royal Arch Mason, Columbia Chapter No. 17, RAM, State Historical Society of Missouri, Boone County Historical Society Museum and Midway Optimist Club.

Survivors include a son, Sanford L. Cunningham of Columbia; a daughter, Jane O. Bensussen of Santa Monica, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

She was a member of the John Corbin Chapter of the Daughters of the American Colonist, of the Columbia chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and of the American Business Women’s Association.

She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Missions Committee, Covenant Group, Flickering Flames and Mary Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Silvey Retirement Group. In recent years, she had worked for University of Missouri-Columbia registration.

Survivors include two sons, Greg Martin of Clearwater, Fla., and David Martin of Columbia; two brothers, Grover Rice of Detroit and Estill Rice of Ashland; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Three Dollar Golf Club at the Lake of the Woods golf course, the Huffs and Puffs Square Dance Club and the John and Cleo Stone Round Dance Club.

He served in the Pacific with the Navy during World War II. He was employed with B.D. Simon Construction for 40 years as a superintendent and was a member of the Carpenter’s Union.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He also was a member of the American Legion and VFW Post No. 280. He coached little league baseball.

Survivors include two sons, Mike Sublett of Bloomington, Ill., and Jim Sublett Jr. of Columbia; two daughters, Marcia Johnson of Springfield and Jeanne Romenius of Derby, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

She was a lifetime member of Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church. Mrs. Moberly had previously been the president’s secretary at Stephens College. She had worked at Boone Hospital Center. She and her husband owned and operated Chris-Gees on Route B. She was a member of the African Violet Club of America, the Senior Center and Business and Professional Women’s Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Gretchen Burkey of Columbia; a sister, Helen Phillippe Burkey of Columbia; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Craigmile was born Jan. 25, 1954, in Omaha, Neb., to James and Barbara Larson Craigmile.

He was a graduate of Hickman High School and had degrees in photojournalism and respiratory therapy from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a respiratory therapist in Wisconsin, Iowa and the Columbia area.

He participated in several bluegrass groups.

Survivors include his father of Columbia; a companion, Brenda Kafton of Columbia; a son, Samuel Craigmile of Columbia; a daughter, Riley Craigmile of Columbia; and three brothers, Paul Craigmile, Steve Craigmile and Joe Craigmile, all of Columbia.

He had worked as a truck driver in Joplin and for Daniels International Power Plant in Callaway County.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1952 and served in the Marine Corps from 1953-56. He attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and Columbia College. He worked for General Telephone from 1967 to 1982.

Mr. Calvin was a Mason and a member of the Twilight Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was also a past monarch of Aleppo Grotto and Tiger Shrine. He chaired fund-raising campaigns for Columbia College.

Survivors include a son, John David "J.D." Calvin of San Diego; four daughters, Tara Calvin of Columbia, Lori Calvin of Elkhorn, Wis., and Mia Calvin and Diedra Calvin, both of Columbia; a brother, Don Calvin of St. Louis; and three grandchildren.

Mark Marion Marmaduke, 52, of Centralia died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St., with the Rev. Mike Gallagher officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Marmaduke was born Jan. 14, 1949, in Clinton to James Morgan and Leota Rayburn Marmaduke.

He married Renay Marmaduke on Aug. 26, 1994, at Bridal Cave at Lake of the Ozarks, and she survives. He was a 1967 graduate of Hickman High School. He has been employed with the Columbia Water and Light Department for 33 years and had recently been promoted to superintendent.

Survivors also include a daughter, Ashley VanLoo of Centralia.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Halmar "Hal" Emanuel Klinefelter, 75, of Columbia died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with the Rev. Kim Ryan officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until services Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Klinefelter was born June 4, 1926, in Franklin County to Howard Emanuel and Milly Scrogum Klinefelter. He married Hazel Maurine Johnston, and she preceded him in death. On March 17, 1999, he married LaVerne Metzger in Columbia, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1943 and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Klinefelter retired as an employee of American Press, formerly MFA Printing. He was a member of Broadway Christian Church, Mid-Missouri Chapter No. 51 of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors and VFW Post No. 280. He also volunteered at The Senior Center.

Other survivors include two sisters, LeNora Boyle of Columbia and Gloria Allen of LaQuinta, Calif.; three stepchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Andrew Klinefelter.

Ray "Coach" Odor Sr., 73, of Columbia died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the Missouri Veteran’s Home in Mexico.

Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Bus. Loop 70 W., with Dr. John Yonker officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Odor was born Feb. 10, 1928, in Canton to Carlyle and Crystal Odor.

He married Carol French on Aug. 1, 1963, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1946. He received a bachelor’s degree in physical education and a master’s in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He served in the Army. He taught and coached at Pilot Grove High School, University High School, South Callaway and Hickman High School. He retired in 1992.

He was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity and was named the Most Influential Educator in the College of Education at MU in 1971. He was Optimist of the Year in 1968 and deacon emeritus of First Christian Church in Columbia.

Survivors also include three sons, Rick Odor and Rob Odor, both of Columbia, and Ray Odor Jr. of Tulsa, Okla.; two brothers, C. K. Odor of Columbia and Richard Odor of Kansas City; and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

John Michael Ohman, 56, formerly of Columbia, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at the Valley Medical Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

Burial will be in the Columbia Cemetery with a private family service under the direction of Parker Funeral Service.

Mr. Ohman was born Nov. 1, 1945, to Victor A.G. and Marian M. Ohman.

He graduated from Hickman High School and attended Drury College in Springfield.

Survivors include his parents; a son, Christopher Ohman of the state of California; a daughter, Jennifer Herron, of the state of California; a brother, Joseph E. Ohman of Columbia; a sister, Annie O. Ruh of Harrisburg; and a granddaughter.

Mrs. Fenton was born Nov. 7, 1909, in Boone County to Edmond Curtis and Letha Jane Hearne Brown.

She married Wallace "Atlee" Fenton on Oct. 25, 1931, in Columbia, and he preceded her in death.

She was a valedictorian of the first graduating class of Hickman High School in 1928. She worked for Farmers’ Mutual Insurance Co. before marrying. She was a former member of the Red Top Christian Church and was an active member of the Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Fenton of Columbia; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jerry Dale Fenton and William Edward Fenton; and three brothers.

Mrs. Spradlin was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Woodlandville to Willard and Mary Claudia Samuels Phillippe.

She married Virgil Spradlin on Aug. 14, 1948, in Oklahoma City, and he preceded her in death.

She graduated from Hickman High School in 1939. She volunteered for many organizations in Wichita.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Spradlin of Wichita.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Effie Phillippe; and two brothers, Willard Phillippe and Willis Phillippe.

David V. Bahm, 61, of Belton, formerly of Columbia, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, in Kansas City.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at the Heartland Family Ministries in Belton and officiated by the Rev. David Baker.

Mr. Bahm was born June 2, 1940, in Columbia to LaVonne Rutledge and William Bahm Jr.He married Beverly Ann Anderson on July 31, 1960, in Columbia, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1958. He served in the military in Germany. He was self-employed and was a well-known photographer who returned to Columbia frequently to photograph. He was an active deacon at the Baptist church in Belton.

Survivors also include a daughter, Jennifer Miller of Cleveland, Mo.; four grandchildren; four brothers-in-law, Kenny, Dean, Gary and Mike Anderson, all of Columbia; and his mother-in-law, Cleo Anderson of Columbia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Blanche and Venus Rutledge.

Jacqueline Sue Baugh, 65, of Columbia died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at her home.

Mrs. Baugh was born Aug. 21, 1936, in Columbia to Robert and Pearl Martin Snodgrass. On Jan. 28, 1956, she married James "Burt" Baugh in Thomas Hill, and he survives.

She was a member of North Park Baptist Church in Moberly and of the American Business Women’s Association.

Other survivors include her parents, of Columbia; two sons, Stephen Baugh and Gary Baugh, both of Columbia; a daughter, Lou Ann Baugh of Columbia; two sisters, Judy Davis and Lou Hathman, both of Columbia; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ravenscraft was born Feb. 1, 1919, in Boone County to T.P. and Nannie E. Williams Ravenscraft.

He married Ruth M. Lee on May 13, 1937, in Columbia, and she preceded him in death.

He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite mason. Before retirement he was employed with the paint shop at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Survivors include a son, Cliff O. Ravenscraft of Kirkwood; a daughter, Phyllis A. May of Mexico; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert S. Ravenscraft; and a sister, Mary F. Walje.

Kenneth H. Cavcey, 63, of Longmont, Colo., formerly of Columbia, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Longmont United Hospital.

Mr. Cavcey was born Oct. 11, 1938, in Columbia, to Marshall and Gladys Landis Cavcey.

He married Judith Barthel on Feb. 6, 1960, in Jefferson City, and she survives.

He graduated from Hickman High School in 1956. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree and doctorate in electronic engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Survivors also include two sons, Michael Cavcey of Longmont and Stuart Cavcey of Columbia; a brother, John Cavcey of Arlington, Wash.; a sister, Carol Cavcey of Columbia; and six grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Berve-Adams of Round Rock, Texas, and Loretta Colvin of Baltimore; her mother, Illamae Brown of Columbia; two brothers, Jerry Kurtz of Lancaster, Calif., and LeRoy Kurtz of Columbia; two sisters, Marilyn McCarty of Columbia and Karen Kurtz of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and a stepbrother, Bob Brown of Glastonbury, Conn.

She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Teresa Rae Berve.

He was a 1945 graduate of Hickman High School and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He retired from automobile sales after working many years for University Chrysler and Dodge City Motors in Columbia.

Survivors include two sons, Leonard Charles Thompson of Sunrise Beach and Steven Thompson of Fulton; a daughter, Rene Thompson of Fulton; a brother, Leon Thompson of Columbia; and four grandchildren.

Charles L. Rutter, 75, of Columbia died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Bus. Loop 70 W. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutter was born May 26, 1926, in Columbia to James and Gertie Lewis Rutter. He married June McDonald in 1950, and she survives.

He graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor’s degree in business and public administration in 1949. He worked in the real estate business for 38 years. In 1959 he co-founded Rutter & Ruether Real Estate.

He served 12 years on the Columbia Area Economic Development Commission, where he was chairman elect for six years, and on the state real estate board of directors. He served as president of Columbia’s Board of Realtors, chairman of the Columbia Area United Way, president of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce and president of Little Dixie Kiwanis Club. In 1971 he was Missouri Economic Development Volunteer of the Year. He was also a volunteer on the board of directors for the Missouri Heart Association and an alumni advisor to Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was elected to the Kappa Sigma Hall of Honor in 1998.

Mr. Rutter was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as an usher for 12 years and taught Sunday school.

Survivors also include his mother, Gertie White of Columbia; three sons, Jim Rutter and Scott Rutter of Columbia and David Rutter of Hartsburg; a daughter, Brenda Walker of Columbia; a sister, Jane Smith of Midland, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.
