Isaac Bradshaw, 2013 Kewpie Sophomore

Just about a month ago around the 9th of January, I received
a phone message, from Isaac Bradshaw. His inquiry was, "Are you the
Charley Blackmore" whose name is written on this Elvis album?
As we know, if you
are a Kewpie who likes to talk and/or listen, "It is a SMALL WORLD!"
I naturally responded and called Isaac back immediately. We had a long visit, and I explained that I had sold almost all of my vinyl collection of LPs back several years ago and apparently this album "ELVIS PRESLEY" which was released March 23, 1956 when I was in the 5th grade. After we got a home stereo in 1958,
I
purchased this album at the "Hi-Fi House" on South 9th Street (The
Strollway) in Columbia. It wound up at Artichoke Annie's Antique Mall
in Columbia where Isaac purchased a couple of my old Elvis albums.
This began a long conversation of all of our "common denominators"! I immediately asked Isaac if he had gone to Hickman, yes, he replied, just one year as a sophomore in 2012-2013. I said my granddaughter was a sophomore that year, Hannah Blackmore. Yep, they were friends after calling Hannah, she remembered him too and they both moved to Battle for the junior and senior years. Hannah also remembered Isaac's girlfriend, Leslie Ramirez at Battle who is still with him in San Diego.

These are pictures I have of the people who are closest to me over those last few months.
Leslie graduated Mizzou in 2020 and works as an underwriter for Bank of America in downtown San Diego. I enlisted in the Navy in 2018 and recently started working at a new command in San Diego after leaving the ship I was on for 4 1/2 years, the USS Carl Vinson.
The old feller is my grandpa Jim Sears and his 1966 MGB that we take on joy rides around Columbia every time I make it home. He was born and raised in Columbia and built a lot of houses on the north side of town from the early 60s through the early 2000s. He still farms on the side as he has all his life.
The other young guy in the photos is my brother Grant Bradshaw who attended the Merchant Marine Academy in King’s Point New York and is now a Marine officer stationed at Camp Pendleton Ca, only 40 minutes away from me.
Out here in San Diego when we’re not working, we ride bikes and camp quite a bit.
There are plenty of things to do in San Diego and we try to take full advantage of them. I still follow and support the Cardinals, but since we’re located so close to the Padre’s stadium Petco Park, we have become Padres fans and have attended a few games every year I’ve been here. Leslie and I rode Amtrak to Dodger stadium and watched game 1 of the NLDS this year. I wanted to watch the whole game, and we almost missed the train back to San Diego! We had to run three miles to the station and jumped on right as the doors were closing!
The picture of Grant and I in the canoe is on the current river in southern Missouri last year. We went with my dad and camped overnight on a sand bar the night before. I caught a bunch of fish that day.
The next day I ran the Heart of America Marathon in Columbia. My mother Mary Ellen Bradshaw ran the Heart of America for the 20th time and my brother, uncle jimmy(sears), and my mom all ran it and finished within 15 minutes of each other. It was a great trip home, and I plan on continuing to run the marathon every year for as long as I can.
This last picture is me on the flight deck of the Carl Vinson the day I left the ship. My formal title is ETN2 Bradshaw, (electronics technician Nuclear) I was qualified Reactor operator and stood watch on the power plant of the ship. I plan on getting out of the navy and working in the field once I’m out. I have a friend that got a job at the Fulton plant and lives in Columbia now. If we end up back in Missouri, I imagine that’s where I’d end up.
Thanks for picking up the other day! We had a pretty busy weekend.. a hockey game Friday night, rodeo on Saturday and a 15 mile hike on Sunday! I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do this email justice, but now I have some time off. Hope all is well! It looks real cold in Missouri today. Have a great day!
